The Minimalist Game
Day 12

āToo many people spend money they havenāt earned, to buy things they donāt want, to impress people they donāt like.ā – Will Rogers.
While I don’t think these items were purchased to impress people they have been just sticking around for way too long. At times we all purchase things for the wrong reason or perhaps for no reason at all other than being in the moment.
This month is causing us to reflect on the use of our time. Not only the amount of time required to find the ‘perfect’ item to buy and the time spent earning the money to purchase the item, time spent maintaining the item, and on and on. What about theĀ time it takes to responsibly dispose of the item? The entire purchasing cycle (acquisition and disposition) takes up so much of our life.
Most of the things we buy aren’t even necessary to life. However, we allow them to steal our precious time away. Time that cannot be bought back at any price. It is forever lost. The next time I pick up an item to purchase (new or used) I am going to stop and ask myself, “Do I want to invest my precious life in this thing?”
