Minimalist Game: Would You Kiss A Dollar Bill?

Here we are at day 23 of The Minimalist Game. While we may have fallen behind in posting our daily updates the game still continues. The girl’s lead was short lived. The boys have now caught up with us and are now posting their items for days 17-21 all in one swoop.

Last night during dinner we were listening to a Pandora radio station and an a line from a song caught my husband’s attention:

“Enjoy Life. You can kiss a dollar bill, but it won’t kiss you back.” – Louis Prima

Funny, but true. All of the possessions that we have chosen to part with this month won’t kiss us back either. If we allow it to happen our possessions can become the focus of our time, attention and affection. What do you find yourself speaking about? Is it the next item that you look forward to purchasing and “kissing” or a person whom you love and enjoy spending time with? Is it a memory that you cherish with someone you love or the latest piece of technology that you have fallen in love with?

Our children are growing up so quickly. It seems like yesterday that they were born. And yet as I clean our home and move our possessions to do so, I reflect on the number of times that the item has actually been used. Sometimes I feel regret, sometimes sadness and sometimes anger. All of these emotions stem from the fact that I feel that the possession is stealing my time, precious time that I’d rather be spending with my children. Playing with them, dancing with them, cooking with them. Just enjoying them.

I value my time with my loved ones too much to allow any THING to steal it away from me. Thus, the Minimalist Game continues…
